How
I Found Freedom in an Unfree World: A Handbook for Personal Liberty

By Harry Browne. Retail
Price: US$24.95. Our Price: US$17.47 (Save 30%).
Pages: 387. Binding: Hardcover. Publication Date: 03/98. Publisher: Liam
Works. ISBN: 0965603679.

In
this welcome reprint of his 1973 classic, Browne tells how to gain more
freedom for your career and your personal life. “You won’t have to convince
anyone else of anything, ” he says. “Every idea in the book will depend
solely upon your own action.”

He
begins with a discussion of individualism. He covers 12 moral principles
to help you avoid mistakes and achieve your goals. He tells how to liberate
your mind and explains how to avoid 14 mental “traps”. Browne identifies
3 principles for dealing with restrictions government puts on us.

Browne
shows how to gain more freedom in your career, tells how to pursue your
dream job, and offers ideas for becoming self-employed. He presents principles
to achieve a better love life and tells how to sustain a great relationship
without getting married and how to enhance your life if you’re already
married.

“The
primary value of these techniques,” Browne explains, “is to help you get
rid of the vague, complicated activities that contribute nothing positive.
Arrange your life so that you don’t have to spend every waking hour carrying
out obligations, holding things together, trying not to rock the boat.”

Libertarianism:
A Primer

By
David Boaz. Our Price: US$14.95. Pages: 320. Binding: Paperback.
Publication Date: 02/98. Publisher: The Free Press. ISBN: 068484768X.

Libertarianism
used to be just a topic at your high school Government Club. But since
all those Ayn-Rand-niks are now in Congress, it’s become a bigger
deal. This book is an admirably clear exposition of the position–defined
by David Boaz as “the view that each person has the right to live his life
in any way he chooses so long as he respects the equal rights of others”–which
is useful to both adherents and those who merely want to “know the enemy.”
Of course, a lot of questions are left unanswered: Do I have to obey speed
limits? Is it OK for me to drive on the left as long as I promise to swerve
when I see you coming? Aren’t there a lot of valuable enterprises that
couldn’t be achieved by individual effort alone, but only with a
degree of government compulsion, including the federal highway system,
public parks, and public libraries?
